Our story

Serving BREAKFAST you SINCE 1938

Roedean Café has been serving customers on Brighton seafront since 1938. It retains much of its art deco charm, and has been tastefully decorated to reflect its age and heritage.

With stunning sea views, indoor and outdoor seating, this family run café is the perfect pit stop for a traditional full english, a light snack or a simple cuppa while gazing out over the English Channel. As well as traditional British café food, we have vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options - if you have a special dietary requirement please ask a member of our team before ordering.

Surrounding the café on the cliff top is a challenging and fun 16 hole pitch and putt mini golf course, a fabulous way to work up an appetite or work off that ‘Roedean Special’ breakfast!

It was taken over by well known chef Poul Jensen and his partner Sammy Berry in 2015, and they live nearby with their son Senna who often helps out at the café.

In 2022 we were delighted to have the opportunity to take over Mac’s Café in Kemp Town, east Brighton launching new ‘Burgers and Dogs’ menu on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The team were delighted to be voted ‘Brighton Café of the Year’ in both 2018 and 2019 by readers of the local Argus daily newspaper (no competition in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic), and scooped the runner-up slot in 2021. Roedean Café has been awarded Travellers’ Choice status by users of Tripadvisor since 2021 putting it in the ‘top 10 per cent of eateries worldwide’, and before that it was awarded Tripadvisor Centre of Excellence status between 2016 and 2020.

It has also received 5 star food hygiene ratings every year and a Brighton & Hove Council Healthy Choice award in 2016.

The café has a large level car park overlooking the sea and is a popular venue for car, bike and scooter club meets and informal ride-outs. It’s also a popular hang out for the local surfing community who pop in to refuel after riding a few waves.

There is access for people with disabilities near the golf kiosk.

We welcome well behaved dogs and their owners in the café.
